2 weeks of meals - under $70

I guess it's about time to start writing on my blog again!

A lot of you were asking me about the meal plan I came up with so I thought I'd post it on here for anyone who wants to get any ideas.
For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, I've been trying to come up with 2 weeks worth of meals with the goal of spending a whole lot less than what I currently spend on groceries. Right now, our grocery bill averages about $100+ a week. Ideally, I'd like to get it down to $70... or cheaper! I've gotten into couponing so I know that's going to help cut the cost a lot as well.

Anyway, Thanks to E-mealz.com for my inspiration, I made up some charts of my meals & my grocery list.

The above chart is all the meals for one week, (meals are numbered, this is important for the next chart) listed with the ingredients needed for each meal, instructions.. you get it.

The chart below lists all the grocery Items I need. Categorized by type (bakery, dairy, meat, etc), with the prices listed next to them (prices are based off of my Safeway receipts, they're liable to change a few cents)
Under the "Meal #" column, I've listed the number of what meal uses that certain grocery item.
Ex: Meals 1, 3, 6 and 7 all use chicken

There are several ingredients used in the meals that aren't on my grocery list because I already have them in my kitchen. The total cost at the end is minus the cost of chicken & beef since we have plenty of it in our freezer. We try to stock up when there's a good deal on meat.

So there ya have it! Hope that helps anyone who is looking for help with meal planning. Let me know if you have any questions & I'd be glad to help :)

  1. Wow, the cost of item's must be cheaper up there! You now if you buy a whole chicken and bake it, and clean the meat off, it would probably save you even more on your chicken expense. I can get a whole chicken for $3-5. And usually has enough meat for at least 2-3 meals. Just a thought...

  2. oh yea we just bought a chicken last night, it was $.79/lb and we cooked it in the crock pot all night long and shredded it today :)
The price of the chicken on this list was for 2 packs of 6 chicken breasts. wouldn't pay that much for one lol
