tent layout

Beau & I went over some plans as to how to set up the inside of the tent. Instead of going with the 16x32 tent we opted for the 16x20 (or will possibly add another 4 feet making it 16x24). The reason we decided to go smaller was that with a bigger tent, we would have to buy 2 wood burning stoves to heat the whole thing up. With the smaller tent, we'd just need one stove. This is the layout that I think will be most ideal:

This is a layout for a 16x20 tent but we would keep the same layout even if we did add another 4 feet. Right now our biggest concerns is keeping the tent warm and building a deck for it to sit on.

We had the opportunity to look at some land a few days ago and we're eagerly waiting to hear back from the guy who owns it to give us his final answer on if we can pitch our tent there or not. We've had a few negative feedback, as to be expected, about our new tent living adventure, especially since we have two young girls but I think it actually encourages me more to get out there and do it! We probably do a poor job of explaining what we're doing though. I think when we talk to people, they have the assumption that we're just pitching a tent and going to sleep on the ground in the cold in the middle of the woods. But we're going to make the tent as homey as we can which means that we'll be bringing our beds, our couch and most of our furniture so it'll be a bit like glamping but not completely that far as we won't have electricity, plumbing or running water. People lived this way hundreds of years ago, so if they could do it, I know we can. It'll definitely be hard and there may be times that I wish I hadn't made the decision to do this but I know it'll be worth it and is great training for what may be ahead. (Post on that to come :))
