Surrender

When I thought of the name of this blog, immediately I thought of the Scripture written in Luke 9:58 "...Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Many may think that's an odd scripture to tag onto my blog. I'll explain...

The cost of following Christ is big. It means laying down our lives to follow after Him. Our desires, wants, comforts of this life, pale in comparison to the call of Jesus Christ. He says in Matthew 16:24 "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." When we come to faith in Christ, It's no longer about our lives. Our whole purpose is all about what we can do to bring more glory to the Father. This means absolute surrender. What does surrender even mean? Lets take a look:

sur·ren·der

verb (used with object)
1.
to yield (something) to the possession or power of another
2.
to give (oneself) up
3.
to give (oneself) up to some influence, course, emotion,etc.: He surrendered himself to a life of hardship.

To yield, to give oneself up... this is the call of Christ. To give up our lives, to deny ourselves, that He may take over and use us for His glory. This may even mean literally losing our lives. It may mean being homeless. It may mean giving up everything that we have. Whoever told you christianity was easy, was not telling you the truth. This life is hard, that's why many choose not to walk this path. The way that leads to destruction is broad but the way that leads to everlasting life is narrow. It's hard. But it is so worth it. And His love, mercy and grace carries us through every hardship, every struggle, every persecution we face.

My husband & I have known that God is expecting us to live with little. That we most likely won't ever settle in any place and he's put these radical desires in our hearts for a purpose. This is why we've been considering the RV lifestyle and even the tent lifestyle. As a means of simplifying everything in our lives and depending on God for everything. To be able to be mobile for His work. To do whatever it takes for Him to be able to use us for His glory. Do we treasure life above Christ? Do we treasure the comforts and (false) security of this world above Christ? I'm reading a book by John Piper called 'Don't waste your life" and there's a quote in it that I have underlined saying, "Some of you will die in the service of Christ. That will not be a tragedy. Treasuring life above Christ is a tragedy." I pray that I would never treasure life more than I treasure Christ.
