I've gotten some really good questions from several of you about why we want to live in a tent. I thought I'd answer your questions here and if there's anything you've been wondering about that I didn't cover, feel free to ask me and I'll update this post with answers to your questions.
WHY?
This has been the biggest question. Why would someone want to give up all their comforts and go live in a tent? There are actually several reasons why (In no particular order):
- To live as simple as we can. We already live a simple life but want to simplify even more. To learn to live life without things that we think we need in today's culture. Of course we'd still have our cell phones and possibly even internet but would forego things like a refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, washer & dryer, the convenience of plumbing (shower, toilet), running water, etc. We want to reduce bills as much as we can. Without electricity, we could do this a great deal.
- To grow closer to God. Without much of the distractions we rely on, we can focus more on God and grow closer to Him. We can be right smack dab in the middle of His creation and experience Him in His creation.
- To prepare for missions. If God ever called us to live in another country, we wouldn't have the luxury of a home or even an apartment. I've done overseas mission trips and it is not glamorous. It is something to adjust to. It's a whole new way of life. So living in a tent would be kind of like the same thing- A whole new way of living and would better prepare us for the mission field if God ever called us abroad and it would be much less of a culture shock.
- Adventure. We love adventure. We love the idea of living against the grain. God has to have a plan in all of this. How did two people with such crazy ideas come together without the hand of God moving it in that direction?
- Stepping out of our comfort zone. No one ever changed by staying in their comfort zone. It's challenging but it's so rewarding.
- Why not? .....'nuff said :)
IS IT TEMPORARY?
Yes, unless God specifically wants us to live this lifestyle for longer than we have planned. Right now we're aiming for at least 6 months up to a year.
WHAT ABOUT YOUR POWER NEEDS?
We most likely wouldn't have electricity except for maybe a generator. We would have battery operated lights and lanterns for our lighting. We would be without a refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher so we don't have much need for electricity other than simple charging of phones or what not which can be done with a generator. We'd also have a wood burning stove for heat.
WHAT ABOUT THE WINTER?
We wouldn't start until after the winter. If we learn the ropes enough and feel comfortable, we may or may not decide to go through next winter in the tent.
I hope this post answers a lot of your questions and like I said before, feel free to continue to ask questions & I'll update this post with answers. :)

Great communication babe! You inspire me more and more each time I read your writing. This even helped me see more clearly "why" we are moving in this direction. I love you babe and to be on this adventure with you and our babies is such an honor!
